From first measurement to final delivery.
A custom door system affects framing, waterproofing, finishes, scheduling, and installation. Our process confirms the critical details before the system enters production.
Submit the project
Provide the project city and state, rough-opening width and height, project type, desired system, target timeline, and any photos, plans, elevations, or door schedules.
Preliminary review
We review the information, discuss the intended operation, and identify missing details. Rough-opening dimensions are for planning and quoting, not automatically the final unit dimensions.
Receive the quote
Your preliminary quote identifies the proposed system, assumptions, selected options, pricing, estimated timeline, delivery method, and payment requirements.
Confirm the configuration
We confirm panel count, operation, stacking location, frame finish, glass, hardware, threshold, screens, and other selected options.
Configuration changes may be made before the agreement is signed and the required deposit is received. Any resulting price change is reflected in a revised quote.
Accept the agreement and pay the deposit
After approving the preliminary quote and configuration, the customer signs the agreement and submits the required deposit. This authorizes preparation of the project-specific shop drawings.
Review and approve shop drawings
Detailed shop drawings are prepared after the deposit is received. The customer and responsible construction professional must verify all dimensions, panel layout, operation, and rough-opening requirements. Production will not begin until the drawings are approved in writing.
Production begins
Manufacturing begins after written shop-drawing approval and satisfaction of all applicable payment requirements. Changes requested after approval may affect pricing and delivery timing.
Prepare the opening
The contractor prepares the opening according to the approved requirements, including structure, level and plumb conditions, waterproofing, flashing, anchoring surfaces, and finish clearances.
Coordinate delivery
Delivery is coordinated based on the order, destination, access, unloading requirements, and construction schedule.
Professional installation
The system must be installed by qualified professionals in accordance with approved drawings and product guidance. ModernFold provides product documents and reasonable product support but does not supervise or guarantee independent installer workmanship.
Production and delivery timing
Standard custom orders generally require approximately 90 days from the project-specific design and shop-drawing stage through delivery. This includes shop-drawing preparation and approval, manufacturing, quality control, and delivery under normal conditions.
This estimated timeline assumes prompt approval of the shop drawings, timely satisfaction of payment requirements, and normal production and delivery conditions.
Drawing revisions, delayed approvals, payment delays, configuration changes, production conditions, weather, holidays, or other circumstances outside ModernFold’s control may extend the estimated timeline. Production and delivery timelines are provided as estimates for planning purposes and are not guaranteed.
Expedited orders
Expedited manufacturing may be available for qualifying orders. When approved, the manufacturing and quality-control process generally requires a minimum of approximately six weeks after shop-drawing approval. Total delivery timing varies by project.
ModernFold will review the requested delivery date and project requirements before confirming whether an expedited schedule is feasible. All timelines are estimates and may be affected by project changes, delayed approvals, production conditions, or circumstances outside ModernFold’s control.
Order early
Starting before the opening is fully framed helps reduce reframing, finish, waterproofing, and schedule risks.
