Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you order.

Custom exterior door systems involve product, construction, schedule, and installation decisions. Start here, then send your specific project details.

Provide the project city and state, rough-opening width and height, project type, desired system, target timeline, and available photos, plans, elevations, or door schedules.

Yes. Systems may be configured in a range of sizes, panel counts, folding directions, stacking locations, finishes, glass options, thresholds, hardware selections, and screen options, subject to product availability and engineering limits.

Pricing depends on exact size, panel count, configuration, finish, glass, hardware, screens, delivery, and other requirements. Submit the project details for current pricing.

Standard custom orders generally require approximately 90 days from the project-specific design and shop-drawing stage through delivery. This estimated timeline assumes prompt approval of the shop drawings, timely satisfaction of payment requirements, and normal production and delivery conditions.

Expedited manufacturing may be available for qualifying orders. Actual timing depends on the project specifications, drawing approval, production schedule, and delivery conditions. Drawing revisions, delayed approvals, payment delays, configuration changes, weather, holidays, or other circumstances outside ModernFold’s control may extend the estimated timeline.

Production and delivery timelines are provided as estimates for planning purposes and are not guaranteed.

Begin as early as possible—ideally before the opening is fully framed. Approved drawings determine the final unit dimensions and required opening conditions.

Project-specific shop drawings are prepared after the agreement is accepted and the required deposit is received. They show unit dimensions, panel configuration, direction of operation, and stacking location.

You and the construction professional responsible for the project review and verify the drawings, and production does not begin until you approve them in writing.

Before that point, the complimentary preliminary quote and configuration review are based on the dimensions you provide.

No. Shop drawings document the door system, its dimensions, configuration, and operation. They are not structural engineering and do not replace it.

Structural adequacy, including header sizing, load paths, anchorage, threshold and sill conditions, waterproofing design, and code compliance, is determined by the construction professional responsible for the project.

Unless installation is specifically included in a separate written agreement, the customer is responsible for hiring a qualified installer. ModernFold supplies the product and documentation but does not supervise or guarantee independent installer workmanship.

When possible, ModernFold may share information for independent contractors in its growing partner network. Customers remain responsible for verifying licensing, insurance, experience, scope, price, and suitability.

Delivery is coordinated based on the order, project location, product size, access, unloading requirements, and logistics. Submit the destination for an estimate.

Tempered Low-E clear glass is commonly specified. Other glazing may be available depending on the product, climate, performance requirements, and supplier availability.

Some systems can be configured to stack toward the interior or exterior. The correct approach depends on exposure, drainage, threshold, clearance, design, and the selected system.

Screen solutions may be available for selected systems and must be confirmed before production.

Yes. We work with homeowners, builders, designers, architects, contractors, and developers. Multi-door projects should include plans or a complete door schedule.

Contractors can complete the partner application on the Contractor Partners page. Applications are reviewed for service area, relevant experience, licensing, insurance, references, and project fit.
